Delta, CO - celebrates National Economic Development Week from May 7-12. National Economic Development Week was created in order to increase awareness of local programs and services that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, enhance local economic impact, and increase quality of life among our communities. It is coordinated by The International Economic Development Council, the largest professional membership organization for economic developers. It is being held during the week of the organization’s 92nd anniversary as the largest professional membership organization for economic developers.

Typically, economic development can be described in terms of objectives. These most commonly include the creation of jobs and wealth, and the improvement of quality of life. IEDC specifically defines economic development as “A set of programs and policies that aid in the creation, retention and expansion of jobs; the development of a stable tax base; and the enhancement of wealth.”

DCED Executive Director, Stacey Voigt states “we are excited that DCED will participate in the 2018 National Economic Development Week. This will be the first time we have participated. Our goal is to highlight the significant impact that each of our partners have in the community, countywide. This celebration week is an important reminder to all of us that we can make a significant difference in our own communities, and set an example to surrounding counties statewide, and even nationwide. What we have to offer local business owners and businesses wanting to move to our county is abundant potential. We’re growing and want our county to grow too.”
